Owen is a twenty one year-old singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, melodica and percussion) who has been performing since he was nine years old. In addition to playing solo, Owen fronts the indie band The Onlys, a guitar and horn-driven trio that explores pop, jazz and funk. Owen is also one half of the new-grass duo Owen and Sam as well as the UK-based indie-jazz duo Spooky Tricycle. Owen’s original music ranges from edgy pop to jazz to blues, rock and hip hop and is influenced by artists as diverse as Wes Montgomery, Les Paul, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jack White, Jeff Beck, Brian Wilson, B.B. King, Dick Dale, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Tony Bennett, Kendrick Lamar, Dave Brubeck, Chet Atkins, Van Morrison and Ella Fitzgerald.
Always comfortable performing, Owen has played a wide variety of venues including live radio. Owen began his music career as a featured performer at the 2011 and 2012 Ukulele Festival of Great Britain, having been awarded an initial performance slot by winning a YouTube video competition. At the age of sixteen Owen completed a tour of clubs in Paris, France and Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico, becoming the youngest musician ever to headline the storied Taos Inn. Owen has since toured the US, England, France and the Netherlands.
Owen has also composed original music for modern dance companies including for the 2015 and 2016 seasons of AirDance New Mexico, in Albuquerque. In 2017 he was commissioned to write the original music for an independent animated film. Owen also works as a session player providing lead guitar, piano and harmony vocals for other recording artists. He has released multiple EPs as a solo artist and just released a new LP as the lead singer and guitarist for The Onlys titled Alright.
Owen was selected as a poetry participant in the New England Young Writers Conference and was awarded a merit scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music's prestigious summer jazz program, where he received honors. He also enjoyed a summer 2018 residency at the Vermont Jazz Center.
The recipient of an artistic achievement scholarship, Owen is a third-year student at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA where he is studying music, writing and film. He just returned from an international exchange program in music and film at Goldsmiths-University in London.
Future projects include a new solo album, a summer 2019 solo tour, concert dates with The Onlys, collaborations with other musicians, freelance recording session work and the production of a documentary film on the history of French "Ye Ye" music of the early 1960's.
